industry players teaming to fight robocalls

The Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA), ATIS and iconectiv have key roles in the coordinated industry-driven work to prevent illegal robocalls, a top customer complaint received by both Federal and state regulators.

The STI-GA, under the auspices of ATIS, is defining the rules governing the certificate management infrastructure to ensure effective use and security of SHAKEN certificates. As the policy administrator, iconectiv, applies and enforces the mechanisms designed to ensure that digital certificates are available only to authorized service providers and RespOrgs based on rules defined by the STI-GA.

STI Governance Authority

The Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) is a critical, industry-led body helping to mitigate the problem of unwanted robocalling. Working with the IETF's STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) protocol, the ATIS-SIP Forum Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs (SHAKEN) specification specifies a practical mechanism for authenticating calls. Attaching a "digital signature" will help consumers to have greater trust in their caller ID. The STI-GA defines the rules governing the certificate management infrastructure to ensure effective use and security of SHAKEN certificates.

Your business and your customers need to access and exchange information simply, seamlessly and securely. As the Secure Telephony Identity Policy Administrator, iconectiv serves in an operational role and has been selected by the STI-GA to apply and enforce the rules defined for the SHAKEN framework. These rules specify a practical mechanism for service providers to authenticate calls and let consumers know that the telephone number displayed on the caller ID is authenticated. As the policy administrator, iconectiv will confirm which service providers are authorized to request certificates and review and approve Certification Authorities to issue them.
