STI-GA Enhances STIR/SHAKEN Functionality to Authenticate Broader Range of Calls

Representing a major advance for the industry-driven work to mitigate illegal robocalls, the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) announced the launch of new STIR/SHAKEN functionality. Beginning October 22, the new software expands caller ID authentication reach with the use of delegate certificates that allow RespOrgs—the companies responsible for assigning toll-free telephone numbers—to directly join the SHAKEN ecosystem.

 

STI-GA Announces Policy Changes to Support Delegate Certificates and Toll-Free

Characterized as a major breakthrough in the conflict with illegal robocalls, the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) announced two policy changes in the SHAKEN ecosystem. The set of first policy changes will allow delegate certificates to be used by third-party callers as well as companies originating calls from toll-free numbers to also provide SHAKEN authentication. The second set of policy changes are designed to authorize Responsible Organizations (RespOrgs) to access Service Provider Code tokens.

 

Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority Progresses Fight to Mitigate Illegal Robocalling by Welcoming Its 50th Service Provider

As a strong indicator of the industry’s commitment to fighting illegal robocalling, the Secure Telephone Identity Policy Administrator (STI-PA) has registered its 50th authorized service provider (SP). SPs must be approved to secure access to the certificates needed to sign and validate calls to mitigate caller ID spoofing. The addition of a 50th SP takes place with the FCC mandate for service providers to implement more than seven months away.

TransNexus Approved by the STI Policy Administrator as a SHAKEN Certification Authority

ATLANTA, Georgia, December 12, 2019 — TransNexus today announced that it has been approved by the STI Policy Administrator to be a Certification Authority (CA) for SHAKEN/STIR. In this role, TransNexus will issue SHAKEN certificates to authorized voice service providers. The providers will use these certificates to digitally sign calls they have authenticated using the SHAKEN/STIR framework. This system will give consumers confidence that the caller ID was not spoofed, a common tactic used with unwanted robocalls.
